Land Acknowledgement
As settlers, we're grateful for the opportunity to meet in this place and we thank all generations of people who have taken care of and been stewards of this land for thousands of years before today. We acknowledge that we are operating on unceded* Algonquin, Anishinaabeg territory. The Anishinaabeg nation includes all the Algonkian/Ojibwa Nations: Ojibway, Odawa, Algonquin, Potawatomi, Nipissing, Mississaugas, Saulteau. We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place. We also recognize the contributions the Métis, Inuit, and other Indigenous peoples have made in shaping and strengthening this community in particular, and our province and country as a whole. We are committed personally and as a business to making Truth and Reconciliation real.
*"Unceded" territory means that the original peoples, The Algonquins, never relinquished ownership of the land to the Crown. It was subsequently taken from them and given to settlers. This includes the land we operate on, for which a crown patent was issued in 1907 under the reign of King Edward VII, and subsequently given to a veteran and his family as a land grant. Land to the west and north of us is designated to be returned to the Algonquins in the largest modern day treaty negotiation of its kind in Canada. We look forward to becoming neighbours with the Algonquin nation when this land claim is finalized.
